Annelies Janssens

Violin, Viola, Clarinet, Saxophone

Annelies graduated with a First-class honours from the BA(hons) Actor-Musicianship at London College of Music.

Annelies started playing the violin at an early age, and continued studying music (classical violin) in Heilig Graf-Instituut (Belgium). She later went on to study improvised music and Jazz at Escuela de Música UDLA (Ecuador) and Fontys Academy for Music and Performing Arts (The Netherlands). Later she went to study Actor-Musicianship at London College of Music.

As a saxophonist, she has played for various Big Bands, was lead alto and featured soloist with The Fontys Big Band and played alto saxophone in Latin band “La Descarga XXL”, alongside playing for national radio and television (Belgium). During her time in Latin America, she had the opportunity to attend various masterclasses with teachers from Los Angeles College of Music and Chucho Valdés. As violinist, she has toured all over Europe with various folk music groups.

During her time in drama school, she developed a strong singing technique (Musical Theatre focused) and recently she became a qualified Vocal health First Aider. As actor-musician, she made her debut as Tammy in “The Greatest Hits of Lily and John at The Other Palace (Studio). She performs at Musical Theatre cabarets throughout London and can be seen in the upcoming production of (Not So) British Theatre Company’s Macbeth.

She has also been an MD and composer for theatre, and had covered tenor/ baritone saxophone, violin, viola, clarinet (basic level) playing in orchestra pits.

Annelies is a versatile teacher who has taught in South-America, Belgium, The Netherlands and UK in a range of different music styles. She loves to tell stories, and emphasises on fun and storytelling through music when teaching as well as technique and skill development.
